Toolbox Talk: What You Don't Know About Cameras For Safety

When it comes to construction safety, the industry is always looking for ways to improve. Today, 2.6% of the average construction company’s budget goes toward training. But the death rate in construction hasn’t dropped in more than a decade.

In fact, construction companies spend more on injuries than they do on training to prevent safety issues from occurring.

Site safety officers can’t see everything happening in the field. While routine safety inspections can’t be replaced, deploying construction time-lapse cameras can complement your safety program by flagging potential issues. Cameras track standard PPE and can flag violations — helping you prioritize safety, prevent worker injury, mitigate risk and avoid OSHA violations and penalties — all without negatively impacting productivity.

Here's what to think about in your next toolbox talk:

      1. Can you prevent accidents before they occur?

You might not be able to predict the lottery numbers, but predicting when accidents may occur is possible — with the right data.

Construction cameras with artificial intelligence can track common safety violations, helping you spot trends. If you find your cameras are consistently documenting improper use of ladders, for example, you can target your training and work to prevent a future mistake.

When they’re identified early, hazards can be addressed before they create productivity problems or turn into injuries.

If incidents do occur, the imagery captured by construction time-lapse cameras informs risk assessments and aids in safety investigations. Camera monitoring provides visual proof and documentation of job site conditions and activities to help you avoid liability.

      2. Is equipment being left unattended?

When equipment sits idle, it creates unnecessary safety risks and clutters up the jobsite. Using construction time-lapse cameras for widespread remote monitoring makes it simple to schedule an equipment delivery based on real-time project progress. Machinery arrives when workers are ready instead of sitting unused, unattended and in the way.

      3. How do you monitor compliance improvement standards across all project sites?

Documenting safety practices using a construction camera can help you understand which teams are exceeding your standards and which may need some refreshers. Cameras with artificial intelligence can compare your PPE use across all projects, showing you total compliance coverage, so you’ll know best practices are in-place everywhere, and not just on a site-by-site basis.

Without having to be on-site, you can visually confirm safety performance and decide when and where compliance training and process improvement may be needed.

Make it easier to monitor and manage jobsite safety using construction live streaming cameras.

When combined with your safety standards, construction time-lapse cameras add another layer of value and protection. Learn what construction cameras can do for jobsite safety.
